Online Resources: The Multiracial Network Blog

Internet Resource for Mixed (Multiracial, Multiethnic) Folks: "The Multiracial Network Blog"

Hey friends!  Today we're going to look at another great online resource for the mixed community.  To quickly recap, the last resource we looked at was the "Facts for Families - Multiracial Children" page from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in this post.

Today's onlines resource is "The Multicultural Network."  Ready for a blast of resourcy goodness?

The Multiracial Network Blog: Think Outside the Box

"The Multiracial Network" is a Wordpress blog that fuctions as "an online forum for college student affairs professionals and researchers to share and discuss information about current and emerging mixed race and multiethnic trends in higher education" (MRN).

Like with the "Facts for Families - Multiracial Children" page, "The Multiracial Network" can be helpful for multiracial and multiethnic folks outside of their specified target audience (in this case, college student affairs).  So if you're a teen or young adult who wants to know what's currently being discussed involving mixed issues, you don't have to be in college student affairs to benefit from this blog.

Let's take a look at what "The Multiracial Network" has to offer:

  • Personal responses from the Network's professional staff on mixed-related issues in current affairs
    • For example, there was a post discussing race and dressing up as something you're not for Halloween during the month of October

  • A "Resources" page to other websites dedicated to multiracial/multiethnic communities

  • An established community of mixed-issue interested webgoers
    • List of people who liked "The Multiracial Network" on Facebook in the sidebar
    • Commentors and contributors in addition to the professional staff
    • Prominent activitists for multiracial/multiethnic issues
      • Recognized by awards too!

  • Links to discussions and publications from respectable sources
    • One example is this post from Stanford University relating to diversity that "The Multiracial Network" reviewed

Keep in mind that:
  1. the blog doesn't update often
  2. it targets an audience of college students and older who are already somewhat familiar with academic affairs.

Even so, "The Multiracial Network" is a really cool look into how academia, student affairs and mixed folks' experiences.  If anything above sounds interesting, or you just want to see how other mixed-centric blogs do things, definitely head over to "The Multiracial Network."

What do you think about "The Multiracial Network?"  See anything cool, interesting or useful?  Let us know if you have any online resources for multiracial and/or multiethnic that you'd like to share.  As always, "Growing Up Mixed" is a safe space.  We're all ears!

Eat something yummy this weekend!
